I'm very happy with the tub. It was well crated and dealing with the company was very easy. They were very patient and helpful with all of my questions that I had before my purchase. They offered lots of small choices for me to finalize- did I want OEM positioned seat mount points, fully open rear fenders, the firewall scribed for drilling, a rear tail-gate opening... etc.
There are scratches in the aluminum that will need to get polished out, but it is just from the handling of the sheet stock over burrs. As an experimental aluminum aircraft builder I've seen worse product being delivered in much thinner sheet stock. I do have two body mount pads (just ahead of the rear axle) that don't line up perfectly. I spoke to Aqualu and to Jeremy at TDK and they say they have even talked together about this particular point. Everything bolts down- guys like us are bolting together custom one-off parts made a couple of thousand km apart by separate companies, so variances can occur- I accept that.
I've seen 3 or 4 other Aqualu tubs at TDK- all of Jeremy's personal vehicles, and my tub was built and finished just as his were. I'm very happy with the tub. This is, after all, a hand-made, basically one-off build, so there are bound to be slight variations that may catch the eye. The welds are great and the aluminum is very stiff and thick. I think most buyers should be very satisfied with the Aqualu tubs.
Also, the firewall recess and tranny tunnel is deep/ large enough to accommodate many driveline choices. It looks to me that most engine/tranny/tcase combos will work without cutting into the tub. I bet I could fit in one of my 460s in there...

"I am amazed at the quality of this tub. I know there's a huge debate about which is the right tub to buy, Aluminum, Steel, Fiberglass. They all have their advantages and disadvantages. For me this was absolutely the right thing to do. I plan on driving this half of the time, sun, rain, snow. I didn't want to go through it again, so it was. I'm really satisfied with Aqualu they're a great manufacturer, customer service was outstanding. Shipping was wicked expensive, but well worth it."

"I retreived the body from the warehouse where I was storing it, and 'unboxed' it in my garage. And I'm very pleased with the build quality. "After considering stretching the body to make the rig a true CJ6, it was painfully obvious that we were starting with a well used body. 20 lbs of bondo can make a car look good, but the cracks on all the body mounts and rust wasn't going to make ice cream paint jobs shine.
So a call to Todd at Aqualu was in order. Todd was always been into building cool parts and after seeing the Aqualu CJ7 body my teammate Jeff Mello had rolled some 20+ times still shine, I always wanted one! However, Aqualu didn't make a CJ6. Thankfully, Todd was willing to do a custom build for me and had another customer who wanted one, so the timing was perfect. He is about 90% done with the body and it's only been 2 weeks... amazing!"

"For the record... We stopped counting rolls on that body somewhere around #64-65 a few years back. That was before Ultimate Adventure 2008 and you all saw how good it still looked for that trip. Some were "as seen on TV' backflips" where the cage was mounted only to the dash and the A pillar took the full hit, and we walked away from every one of them.
I've never met Todd from Aqualu in person but when I do I want to shake his hand. Unbelievable quality..."

"I am writing to say thank you. Last year I wrote you before I ordered a tub, and I asked you about the 'bumps' that people in ih8mud said I'd have to grind off. You explained that the bumps were just weld marks that would be removed with a bit of sanding. Somone at Aqualu - probaby you - *acutally ground off the marks before sending the body. I don't know much about painting and body prep, but I do know that it takes time and effort to grind metal surfaces, so thank you.
A friend of mne, another Land Cruiser owner out of Skowhegan, Maine - checked out my aluminum body after I first got it. He was actually planning to patch a steel body, but after checking the Aqualu body in person, he knew he had to have one too. He ended up buying one directly from your company, and after doing some prep work he has primed his body and it is ready for paint. As soon as we're both finished, i'll send a couple of updated pictures."

*All welded seams are ground down and finished with a scotch brite pad. Allthough some minor body work may be required depending on your desired color and finish. (Darker colors may require more prep work before painting)
A friend of mne, another Land Cruiser owner out of Skowhegan, Maine - checked out my aluminum body after I first got it. "The half doors arrived on Friday the 4th (quick delivery) and I installed them over the weekend. I just wanted to say what a great product they are. The construction and fit on the doors is excellent. The top being flat with rolled edges is very nice. I also did not expect that the mounting hardware (nuts, bolts, striker plates, hinges, weather stripping, etc.) would be included in the kit. I was very impressed and will be reccommending them to all my Cruiser friends! Thanks again for a great product"

"I have a 2nd generation Aqualu tub and I could not be happier. My doors fit perfect, the welds are rock solid, it is damn near bullet proof, fits everything like a glove, installation was a piece of cake, epoxy primer and good paint solve the oxidation/ electrolysis. I tipped my fj40 on its side and smashed my metal door and hardtop, and the tub did not even budge.
It's lightweight and it will not rust, it's re-inforced behind the tire carrier and around the corners and is very very durable. It kicks ass, fits perfect, does not rust, factory things fit just fine (gas tank, doors, gas emissions, etc.) and if position yourself just right, will scratch your back too!"

"I have installed about 6 of the AL tubs. Sold a few others and I have one on one of my own '40's. Installed carefully ALL of the OEM parts fit fine, as do aftermaret parts ment for 40's. Everyone has been perfectly happy with their tubs and they love them. As do I."

"We sell a lot of those aluminum tubs and install a lot as well, and we have always been happy with the construction and fit. There is always a chance of a bad installer so look at allignments of body parts.
My opinion on the tubs is as follows:
- they are solid
- fit nice, but it's not going to just drop into place. You will need to install the top and doors to align everything up before drilling and bolting
- I don't ground anything to the tub anyways so grounds have never been an issue.
- It's nice to drive something that is way quieter
- I'm making plans to install an Aqualu tub on my FJ40
- I've used the FJ45 parts as well and have been very happy
- A customer of mine had the misfortune of hitting a tree at high speed. His cowl was destroyed and he damaged a lot of parts, he could have been killed but he had a pile of horse shoes and a lot of luck on his side. His tub was perfect! and it went into his rebuild.
- Heat issues could be an issue but I guess that's what mats are for. I dare you to touch my floor when I'm on the highway!
I highly recommend the second gen tubs, espically if if the install work is already done."

I was a land cruiser show recently and saw an FJ40 painted up and in mint conditon. It took mea few minuets to realize it was an Aqualu tub! I've owned cruisers for over 7 years and had a hard time telling the difference from stock. I'm going to run mine unpainted until I get some extra cash, but it has really transformed my lovable rust bucket, into a really sharp looking machine. You guys did a great job and I woulden't be happier. I'm so glad I went aluminum over figerglass! I thought about it for about a year before I made my purchase, so good call!

The instillation of the body tub was the easest part of the restoration, I was impressed by how well your tub matched the stock body. I have seen a lot of after-market body tubs but yours is by far the 'BEST'. The soft top was also a joy to install, a perfect fit. For my money Aqualu is the only choice, I highly recommended.
