Q: What are the bodies & components constructed of?
A: They are constructed of 5052 marine grade aluminium alloy 5/32" or .156" thick.
Q: What is electrolysis and what to do about it?
Frequently Asked Questions
A: It is a reaction between dissimilar metals. To avoid and possibility of this you want to isolate the metals. Paint is a barrier, but we provide a tube of Sikaflex polyurethane compound to apply to sections of the body where the steel and aluminium meet. We also advise placing rubber
between seat mounts and roll bars, or any other area where the two metals join.
Q: Can you do paint and body work?
A: Absolutely, painting or powder coating is very common, but typically you will see heat marks from the weld on smooth surface tubs. E-mail us and we can provide you with a Procedures list. If you require a "show-room" finish, we recommend that you contact a reputable body shop who can advise you on the steps required.
Q: Are they difficult to assemble?
A: Over 90% of the components purchased from us are assembled by the purchaser. We do recommend basic knowledge of mechanics since the old body does need to be removed. We suggest you allow 30 to 40 hours for assembly depending on your skill level and your desired end result.
Q: Are the FJ/BJ 40 bodies strong enough to support the original spare tire carrier?
A: Our bodies are thicker than the original Toyota bodies and we weld additional support on the left for the original spare tire carrier.
Q: What is included with the bodies?
A: All FJ40 bodies come with running boards, mounting hardware, a tube of sikaflex, rubber shifter boots, install DVD and '78 & older come with mounting pads. Please refer to individual part numbers.
Q: How much does it weigh?
A: Please see individual part numbers.
Q: What about shipping?
A: This will vary depending on location and final weight. Best estimate is between $500-$800. We provide an exact quote prior to the completion of the order so you will be able to factor this into your purchase decision. We also ship internationally, please don't hesitate to ask for a quote.
More FAQ's as we remember!
Q: How long does an order take?
A: When an order is placed we estimate 7 to 10 business days for bodies and 2 to 4 business days for smaller componants to leave our dock if it is in stock and the customer is in good standing. An estimated time of departure will be provided when the order is placed.
